Miniature bearings with tapered outer ring for shaft sizes from 0.1875" to 0.3125"
See product table below for dimensions and technical drawings
SMB tapered bearings are versatile and can be customised for different applications. Whether you need bearings for high-speed operations, high load conditions, or environments with specific contamination levels, SMB can provide a solution that fits your needs.
These inch-sized taper O.D. miniature bearings feature a slightly tapered outer ring, which simplifies fitting into sheet metal or softer materials like aluminium. The inner ring is wider than the outer ring, eliminating the need for spacers or washers. In addition, the outer ring includes a flange, which helps in locating the bearing within housing and prevents axial movement under thrust loads. The flange also maintains the bearing's position in thin housings, where an interference fit is hard to maintain, and helps secure the bearing in aluminium housings that expand more than the bearing at higher temperatures.
Material and performance
Taper O.D. bearings are typically available in SAE52100 chrome steel but some sizes may also come in stainless steel. Chrome steel versions, with a steel retainer and suitable lubricant, can operate at a constant temperature of 120°C or up to 150°C intermittently. However, above these temperatures, the load capacity of chrome steel is reduced. These bearings are unsuitable for corrosive environments because of the lack of corrosion resistance in the steel material.

It is advisable to operate bearings at significantly lower than maximum load and speed ratings to ensure a reasonable bearing life.
